MELAKA: Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Tanjung Bidara candidate Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin denied claims that her relationship with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's state chief Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen was strained.

According to Mas Ermieyati, who is Deputy Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law), she has a good working relationship with Rafiq.

Being part of the same team, the Masjid Tanah Member of Parliament said she is working closely with Rafiq to ensure PN's victory in the Nov 20 Melaka polls.

"I have no problem with him (Rafiq) because we are in the same party and both want our party to win this state election.

"He is the Bersatu state chief. Why would we have a problem?" she said when met at the PN command centre in Kampung Padang Kemunting, Masjid Tanah, here today.

Mas Ermieyati said she often had discussions with Rafiq where they both make efforts to find the best ways to ensure PN's triumph in Melaka.

"So it isn't true that we have problems with each other. Instead, we often work together for the sake of the party and PN."

She said this when asked on claims that she and Rafiq who is Paya Rumput assemblyman don't see eye to eye despite being in the same party and coalition.

Rumour is also rife in Melaka that Mas Ermieyati is seen as PN's favourite to be the pact's state Chief Minister candidate should the coalition win the polls.

However, Mas Ermieyati said the thought of becoming a Chief Minister had never crossed her mind, adding that her intention was to only provide her services to Tanjung Bidara constituents.

For the upcoming state election on Saturday, Mas Ermieyati is set to face her former mentor from Umno Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as well as Pakatan Harapan candidate Zainal Hassan.
