MELAKA: Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) will file a suit at the High Court here to challenge the legitimacy of the caretaker state government following the dissolution of the state assembly.

PH said its legal team was preparing the documents and expected to file the suit early next week.

"PH does not recognise (the legitimacy of) of this caretaker government, which was formed in haste," said state PH chairman Adly Zahari

"It also questions how Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, who had lost his majority in the state assembly, could advise Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam to dissolve the assembly.

"This is all strange. We will challenge the validity of this caretaker government in court as soon as possible," he told Berita Harian.

Adly said Sulaiman no longer commanded the confidence of the majority and had no authority to advise the Yang di-Pertua Negeri to dissolve the assembly.

Adly, who was Bukit Katil assemblyman, said the dissolution of the assembly was done without taking into account the views of those in the majority bloc of state legislators.

State assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who is also the Melaka Umno liaison chairman, announced the dissolution of the legislature on Oct 5.

Rauf had said the dissolution had the consent of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

Adly said should a state election be held, the PH election machinery was ready to wrest the state from Barisan Nasional.

"Our election machinery statewide is prepared and will be put into motion once there are new developments on the state election," he said.

Adly, who was chief minister until his state government was toppled in the aftermath of the Sheraton Move last year, said the four assemblymen who had retracted their support for Sulaiman were welcome to join any of the PH component parties.

Former Sungai Udang assemblyman Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (former rep of Pantai Kundor), Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (former rep of Telok Mas) and Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (former rep of Pengkalan Batu) had reportedly met PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week.

Idris had also met Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu. However, Idris has denied claims that he had received an offer to join the party.

Before the Melaka legislature was dissolved, PH held 11 seats: DAP seven seats, Amanah and PKR with two seats each.

The four assemblymen who dumped Sulaiman had said they were independent.
