SEMPORNA: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) machinery has been instructed to remain in a 'ready mode' to win back Bugaya state seat when Covid-19 subsides.

Warisan vice-president Datuk Jaujan Sembakong said the party machinery could be mobilised at any moment once the Election Commission (EC) has set a new by-election date.

He said yesterday's emergency proclamation in Bugaya was expected, taking into account the current Covid-19 situation in the state.

"The decision is made to safeguard the rakyat's health in the Bugaya state constituency due to the Covid-19 threat.

"Nonetheless, our party machinery in Bugaya has been told to be prepared always because when Covid-19 pandemic situation improves, the EC will set a new date," he said when contacted, today.

When the time comes, Jaujan, who is also Sulabayan assemblyman, said the party would be ready to mobilise itself to defend Bugaya seat.

Bugaya by-election was called following the death of its assemblyman Manis Muka Mohd Dara in November. The EC has initially set Jan 16 to hold the Bugaya by-election.

Manis Muka's daughter Faradibah Sabardin, who leads Semporna Wirawati, said the party wing would not be complacent following the emergency announcement.

"We are laser focus to get back Bugaya. Our president (Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal) had met with the party machinery to keep the fighting spirit high," she said, adding that the support among the young people towards Warisan had been increasing by the day.

Faradibah also said the emergency was necessary as many voters in the Semporna constituency were still worried about their health and safety in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
