KOTA BARU: The Pas-led Kelantan government will adopt the approach it uses at the national level in determining seat allocations for its state constituencies.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said this will make it easier for the state government to prepare for the 15th general election (GE15).

Amar, who is Pas vice-president, said this will also prevent clashes between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Muafakat Nasional (MN) parties in Kelantan.

"Kelantan Pas will follow the same method used at the national-level in seat allocation of state constituencies.

"Pas will only contest seats the party had won before, and will not contest in constituencies won by Umno to avoid any three-cornered fight," he added.

Amar said the move is to strengthen the party's relationship in PN and MN.

However, he said discussions on seat allocations of state constituencies have yet to be held.

Amar was commenting on Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa's remarks on Sunday (Dec 13) that seat allocations for GE15 among Umno and BN component parties is almost 90 per cent finalised.

He had said that three rounds of discussions had been held under the consultation committee, led by Umno's Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on the matter.

Annuar also confirmed that Umno had held two talks with Pas and both parties, through the MN charter, had reached a 60 to 70 per cent consensus on seat allocation.

Annuar had said both parties had also agreed that 55 parliamentary seats won by Umno would not be contested by Pas, and another 18 seats won by Pas would not be contested by Umno.

Annuar said if there are seats where both parties had lost, but for which Umno garnered more votes, then Umno would contest and vice versa.
