IPOH: Perak opposition leader, Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, today described the state government's move to allocate RM200,000 for each of the state's 59 assemblymen in next year's budget as "historic".

The DAP Tebing Tinggi assemblyman said the move reflects the maturity of the new state government.

"We feel relieved and thankful for the RM200,000 allocation for all 59 assemblymen in the state.

"What was announced by the Kota Tampan assemblyman (Datuk Saarani Mohamad) yesterday is historical … something that has never happened before.

"We hope the approach will be a good start towards mature politics in our country," he said during a debate session on the Perak Budget 2021 at the State Assembly sitting in Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here, today.

Yesterday, Saarani, who is also the Perak Menteri Besar, announced that the state government would allocate RM200,000 for each of the state's 59 assemblymen in an effort to provide better services to the people amid these challenging times.

Saarani said this was in line with a recent decree by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who wished to see political tensions eased.

The move will allow elected representatives from both sides of the political divide to serve the people better and ease the rakyat's burden during the Covid-19 pandemic.
