KOTA KINABALU: The Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) machinery will remain on standby to be mobilised at any time to face the Batu Sapi by-election in future.

Sandakan Warisan chief George Hiew Vun Zin said the declaration of an emergency in Batu Sapi would not dampen the fighting spirit of supporters to defend the parliamentary seat.

"We are looking at the emergency announcement positively. It is an important decision especially in Sandakan district, where the Covid-19 situation is serious.

"I am sure Batu Sapi voters and the Sandakan people are worried about a by-election being held during a pandemic. As politicians, we feel a loss as Batu Sapi has no Member of Parliament.

"But we will get Batu Sapi back when the right time comes. Constituents are still very much with Warisan," he said today.

George Hiew, who is Karamunting assemblyman, said the party would continue to focus its attention on serving the people during these tough times.

With a delay in the Batu Sapi by-election, he said it would allow them to be better prepared.

"I believe we can win as we have strong support from the grassroots," he said.
