KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa has suggested for Umno, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Pas to renew its political cooperation by going back to basics; and to make decisions without being driven by emotions.

He was commenting on the decision made by Umno Supreme Council's political bureau yesterday in which the party said it was considering withdrawing its support for Perikatan Nasional (PN), while also setting new terms should they decide to continue their political cooperation with the PN government.

Annuar, who is Ketereh member of parliament, also urged leaders from the three parties to be calm in order to make wise decisions for the country and its people.

"There may be reasons as to why Umno wants to review its position in the PN government. Umno and BN have the right to review its place from time to time and it is not impossible for the PN government to be further strengthened through discussions.

"It is not wrong for Umno, Bersatu and Pas to go back to the political drawing board so that we can achieve something better for Malaysia.

"Don't let emotions control us to the point we are unable to see the ugliness that could befall the people and our country," he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page today.

After a meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) last night, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Umno would set new conditions for the PN government to continue its political cooperation through a written agreement that would be implemented as soon as possible.

Annuar, who is Federal Territories Minister called on leaders of the three parties to prioritise political stability in the country.

"We must also strengthen Malay unity which is the foundation of the country's political stability," he said.

"Attention must be given towards saving the people's lives, curbing the Covid-19 pandemic, reviving the economy, easing the people's burden and turn Malaysia into a successful nation instead of a failed state."

Yesterday, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented statutory declarations (SD) and affirmed documents from political party leaders to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during their meeting at Istana Negara. Anwar claimed to have the support of 120 MPs.

In a statement on the same day, the Istana Negara confirmed that Anwar had submitted the number of MPs whom he claimed were behind him but did not provide the names of the lawmakers involved.

"Therefore, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah has advised Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to respect and abide by the legal procedures as enshrined in the Federal Constitution," Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin had said in a statement yesterday.
