KUALA TERENGGANU: The people must allow Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to carry out his job uninterrupted due to the short timeframe to produce results before the next sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.

State Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said the prime minister would need space to make the right decisions fast to reinstate stability in the government and reassure the people on policy efficacy.

“I understand the pressure he has to go through because I was in an almost similar position when I became the menteri besar in March 2008,” said Ahmad who is Kijal state assemblyman.

Ahmad described Muhyiddin as a seasoned politician, an experienced leader and a respected administrator and believed that the tasks before him would be handled with wisdom.

“We (Umno) will back him so that political stability is achieved soonest possible and the job of looking after the interest of the people gets serious attention. He probably has less than three years to do what no other prime minister has done.”

He also said that Muhyiddin should not be pressured in selecting his Cabinet members. Ahmad believed that Muhyiddin would only pick those who could deliver.

“The new government is represented by many experienced parliamentarians and he should have no problem putting the right person in the right ministry.”
