PONTIAN: The government has allocated RM180,000 to repair four school grounds in the district which will serve as voting centres for the Tanjung Piai by-election.

State Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohd Solihan Badri said SK Sungai Durian (SK) has received RM80,000, SK Andek Mori (RM30,000), SK Serkat (RM20,000) and SK Seri Sinaran Chokoh (RM50,000).

He said the projects were implemented through a special allocation fund by Pontian's Public Works Department in conjunction with the by-election.

"It is understood that the school grounds are small and have uneven surfaces.

"The projects are expected to be completed shortly before the by-election," he said after the PWD project briefing here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Mohd Solihan said road upgrading works, from Pekan Nanas to Tanjung Piai and Pontian (Phase 2) is expected to be completed by Dec 6.

"This is to prevent traffic congestion as the road is an important route for all users coming from all directions," he added.

In addition, the three-kilometer Sungai Pulai bridge which costs RM650 million will be completed by 2021.

Mohd Solihin said the bridge connects Kampung Sungai Boh and Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas.
