CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Voters in Tanah Rata are hopeful that whichever candidate who wins the Cameron Highlands by-election tomorrow will finally bring an end to the various problems in the area.

They are hopeful that the new ‘Yang Berhormat’ would be able to resolve the problems faced by the people in the form of providing treated clean water supply, housing and parking issues.

Pilus Aziz, 48, an Orang Asli from Kampung Susu, Pos Telanok, said there were no proper roads to his village or clean water supply.

“I really hope the new MP will quickly resolve these issues,” he told NSTP.

He added that Pos Telanuk had also seen intrusion on its lands from outsiders and was hopeful that this could also be looked into.

M. Kaliannan, 80, who runs a grocery shop in Tanah Rata, said the new parking regulations introduced last October at tourist spots in Cameron Highlands was proving to be burdensome to traders.

“Previously, these were free parking spots but since last October, we had to pay daily parking charges although we only earn from customers on the weekends,” he added.

“The high charge of RM80 per month or RM6-7 daily parking fees is too burdensome. At the very least bring this rates down to below RM50,” Kaliannan pleaded.

Noorbee Mohd Salleh, 53, of Kampung Melayu in Desa Kayangan, Brinchang meanwhile hoped the new incoming MP would allot land for a mixed Malay and Orang Asli settlement.
