CAMERON HIGHLANDS: The spread of pamphlets and racist posters depicting Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate M. Manogaran in Sungai Koyan, here, has nothing to do with Barisan Nasional (BN), said the coalition’s chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He remarked that such posters could have been produced by certain individuals and denied that it was done by the coalition or any of its component parties.

“I did not see the poster and am confident that it was not produced by BN. It could have been done by any individual,” Hasan said, adding that as such he could not comment further on the matter.

Hasan was speaking to reporters after holding a joint meeting with Cameron Highlands MCA, here, today.

The racist pamphlets and posters alleged that DAP was a "Hindu party" and was responsible for the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Earlier today, Manogaran urged the authorities to investigate the matter and take necessary action.

However, no police report has been lodged over the posters.

Hasan who is deputy Umno president, carrying out the duties of the party president, said such a matter should have been avoided and he would have never allowed for such racist posters or pamhplets to be produced by the coalition’s election machinery.

“I hope there are no racist pamphlets and posters, which is something that should be avoided. We must campaign in a healthy manner,” he said.

“We promote our candidate. What is our candidate doing? Our candidate is a local, who understands local conditions and has a lot of experience, good working experience, high position in the police force and good academic qualification.

“We are confident that this good combination of a local candidate and the MB (Pahang Mentri Besar) from here will prove to be an advantage to the people of Cameron Highlands, do not let this opportunity go,” he urged.

On the acceptance of voters so far for BN’s candidate Ramli Md Nor, Hasan said it has been positive.

“We hope the percentage of voters will be high, we do not want a repeat of the previous by-elections which saw voter-turnout at less than 50 per cent.

“To voters, this is your time, to use your power as the electorate to provide the necessary check and balance to the opposition in Parliament as well as to ensure that the government is not all too powerful and does not care for the problems faced by the people."
