CAMERON HIGHLANDS: DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Chief Howard Lee lodged a police report here over a defamatory remarks made by PAS Youth Chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi during a ceramah session at Kampung Keledek near Jelai on Friday night.

He lodged the report at the District Police Station at Tanah Rata, here today.

Lee who is also the Pakatan Harapan Deputy Youth Chief said Khalil who is Pas President datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s son had during the ceramah claimed that the DAP was seeking to remove Islam as the official religion of the country.

He said Khalil had also in his defamatory allegations, claimed that the DAP and PH are seriously seeking to remove Islamic and royal institutions in the country.

“This is a very serious allegation and is slanderous in nature, which I believe is in violation of Section 499 of the Penal Code,” he said.

“My aim in lodging this police report is to ensure that this matter could be investigated thoroughly according to the Penal Code and other relevant laws. This, as such remarks would bring about the anger of the people and has willfully and maliciously inculcated hatred against the ruling PH pact, and the DAP specifically on a racist basis,” he said at a press conference after lodging the police report.

The press conference also saw the presence of Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Pahang PKR Chief Fuziah Salleh.

A news portal today reported that Khalil in his ceramah at Kampung Keledek on Friday claimed that DAP wanted to remove Islam from as the official religion of the country as well as alleging that the party was undermining various Islamic institutions as well as the country’s monarchy.

Kampung Keledek is one of three polling districts won by PAS in the 14th general election (GE-14) apart from Sungai Koyan Satu and Kota Raja.

Meanwhile, Fuziah said PAS and UMNO should not use such a statement in order to fish for votes in the by-election.

"As a Deputy Minister in charge of religious affairs, I have the right to speak on this subject, first of all, we must take care of our morality and also be careful with our words. When we want to say others are bad, we must show that we are good in the first place.

“PH upholds the Federal Constitution and will not change the Constitution and this is a promise from PH,” she said such slanderous measures taken to garner votes should be rejected outright.

Fuziah backed the DAP’s move in lodging the Police report to investigate the matter.
