MELAKA: Former Melaka Chief Minister Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam has denied rumours that he will be leaving Umno to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

The former Umno vice president in rubbishing the rumours said his struggles, up to this very second, were still very much with Umno.

"That is just playful news. I am not leaving Umno. Until this second, I am still an Umno member.

"My struggles continue to be with this party, the question of me leaving Umno and joining another party does not arise," he said when contacted by NSTP, here, today.

In quoting a source, an online portal reported that Mohd Ali would be joining Bersatu this evening.

The source in the report also said Mohd Ali's alleged jump would increase the number of former Melaka chief ministers to leave Umno, after Datuk Seri Adib Adam and Tan Sri Rahim Tamby Chik.

Last weekend, Rahim surprised many when he submitted his Bersatu membership form to Melaka Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof.

Rahim explained that he would mobilise a movement called 'Hijrah Politik' and travel the country to explain the current political situation to the rakyat.

He also hoped to meet former Melaka chief ministers Mohd Ali and Datuk Seri Idris Haron to explain to them about Bersatu's direction.
