IPOH: Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy’s call for action against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) youth wing Armada chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for questioning Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was baseless and out of bounds.

Perak BERSATU Armada chief Mohd Hafez Mubin Mohd Salleh said the handing of memorandum by Syed Saddiq, who is also the youth and sports minister, was not an act of disrespect, but was merely a way to deliver requests or suggestions to the intended party.

“The handing over of memo demanding the resignation of P. Waytha Moorthy, the minister in charge of unity, by Armada to the prime minister was aimed at expressing its view on the matter.

“Armada has high hopes that such demand would be realised but if it doesn’t, we would accept any decision by the prime minister,” be said in a statement on Friday.

Ramasamy, who is also DAP central executive committee (CEC) member, had previously described Syed Saddiq’s action as an ‘insult’ to Dr Mahathir’s intelligence in deciding the Cabinet line-up by after he was allegedly supported calls for Waytha Moorthy’s resignation.

Mohd Hafez said Ramasamy was practising ‘double standard’ in voicing his views on the matter.

He was referring to DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief Wong Kah Woh who had also criticised the prime minister on the appointment of ministers on July 2.

“Why didn’t Ramasamy say anything and urge the party leadership to take action (against Wong) then? Didn’t he (Ramasamy) feel such an act was also an ‘insult’ to prime minister’s intelligence in making decisions?

“Ramasamy should do his ‘homework’ and be more careful in issuing any statement in the future,” he said.

Mohd Hafez said all quarters were responsible in protecting the good rapport among parties in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and carried the people’s mandate.
