PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Seri Setia by-election has denied using government machinery for his campaign.
Halimey Abu Bakar also denied he gave out goods to those in the constituency in a bid to garner votes throughout his campaign period.
"I deny (using state government machinery) and I also did not hand out any goods to voters in my campaign," Halimey told reporters today.
He was responding to a news report on a statement made by PAS candidate Dr Halimah Ali in an event in Ampang in which she had questioned if her opponent's campaign was 'bersih' (clean), and had asked why was state government machinery used for the by-election campaign.
Dr Halimah yesterday said since this was now a 'New Malaysia', rakyat must talk about government and election reformation.
"I was observing, this morning and afternoon's (yesterday) programmes, at PJS 6 and Desa Mentar, government (machinery) was handing out items," she was quoted as saying.
"These allegations are false. If it was in reference to a programme with an educational institution recently, I was just present as a guest," he said at a media conference after attending a gotong-royong event at the Seri Jati Flats in Ara Damansara, here, today.
At the gotong-royong and free health check programme today, Halimey spent some time meeting with the residents.
The health check event was also attended by Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah.
Meanwhile, Halimey said if he was given the mandate to become Seri Setia's state representative, he would have specific planning to helping small and medium entrepreneurs in the area.
He said this was to ensure these traders can stand tall with other businesses that have been around longer.
"The Seri Setia constituency is a unique area as it is situated in the middle of a metropolitan city apart from being part of the road network between Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
"Among the focus of my plan is to restructure and upgrade the stalls around Seri Setia.
"Other than that, these traders will also be given exposure to information technology to ensure they can market their products online," he added.
