BANGI: MCA’s Balakong by-election candidate Tan Chee Teong joined residents of Taman Sri Cheras, 10th Mile in a Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration today.

After conducting a walkabout programme at Taman Megah, Tan headed to the Nurul Ihsan Mosque to witness and participate in an ‘Ibadah Korban.’

The mosque’s chairman, Ezzaldin Yahya, said mosque officials were caught by surprise by Tan’s visit, but were happy to welcome him.

He said Tan even helped hold a cow down for the sacrifice ceremony and distributed meat to the people.

“The previous assemblyman (Eddie Ng Tien Chee) was really popular among the people because he always followed the programmes carried out in this area.

“Tan’s visit today (was to introduce himself to the people, and to show) his commitment towards the community,” Ezzaldin said.

Tan said festivities in Malaysia are celebrated by all races, and he was using the occasion as an opportunity to get closer with constituents, especially Malay and Muslim voters.

“(But) my turning up here today is not merely to campaign. (I want) to celebrate (Aidiladha) together with the Muslims on this special occasion.

“I also want to wish ‘Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha’ to everyone who is celebrating,” he said when met by reporters.

Tan also spent about 40 minutes mingling with Taman Sri Cheras residents.
