GEORGE TOWN: Penang PKR Youth today said that grassroot members should be appointed to higher positions within the party to continue their agenda to serve the people.

Acting state PKR Youth chief Khairil Anuar Kamarudin said this was because these members understood issues plaguing the people better than “outsiders.”

He also cautioned the party’s central leadership about embracing former Barisan Nasional (BN) members, who he described as “parasites”.

He urged PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be cautious about accepting those who were taking advantage of the party for their own personal gains.

“The new appointments of officers in PKR, especially those who work closely with the party de facto leader, should be vetted through by the party’s central political bureau first.

“We do not want a repeat of history like in 1998 and 2008 when (Datuk Seri) Anwar was framed and jailed,” he told a press conference here today.

Khairil said state PKR Youth does not deny the roles played by two major figures, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar himself, as the contributing factor for the change of government after the 14th General Election.

“At the same time, we also cannot deny that the victory has also to do with the people’s uprising, who are hungry for change and justice in the country.

“As such, we hope that the sacrifices and committments showed by the grassroot members in the last 20 years will be rewarded,” he added.
