KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad returns to Parliament after defeating Langkawi incumbent Datuk Nawawi Ahmad in a three-cornered fight at the 14th General Election (GE14).

This is based on an unofficial result as of 11pm.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman last contested at the 1999 General Election for the Kubang Pasu parliamentary seat.

His son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz who is also PPBM deputy president, also makes a return to not only wrest Jerlun parliamentary seat, but also seizing Jitra state seat.

PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin retains Pagoh parliamentary seat which he has held for the past five terms, as well as capturing Gambir state seat.

New face Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman who is also PPBM Youth chief took the Muar parliamentary seat from incumbent BN’s Datuk Razali Ibrahim who is also deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail seized the Pandan parliamentary seat in a five-cornered fight. She shifted from Permatan Pauh, a seat which she has held for the past four terms since the 1999 General Election.

Her deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali retains his Gombak parliamentary seat as well as Bukit Antarabangsa state seat, both of which he had won since GE12.

However, there was no upset in Pematang Pauh parliamentary seat. PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who shifted from Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat, defeated a new face from PAS, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden.

DAP, through its veteran leader Lim Kit Siang has managed to retain his Iskandar Puteri seat (previously known as Gelang Patah) for a second term.

His son, Lim Guan Eng has also defended his Parlimen Bagan parliamentary seat and Air Putih state seat.

Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) president Mohamad Sabu also made a surprise win at Kota Raja parliamentary seat in his first attempt after sitting out from contesting in the last general election.

His deputy, Salahuddin Ayub returns to conquer Pulai parliamentary seat after he was defeated during the last general election. He also won Simpang Jeram state seat.

Meanwhile, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang retains his win at Marang parliamentary seat for the seventh term, while his son, Muhammad Khalil who is also Pas’ Youth chief won Batu Burok state seat for the first term.

Abdul Hadi’s deputy, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man who shifted to Kubang Kerian parliamentary seat from his Jengka state seat, also triumph.

Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), through its president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal retains Semporna parliamentary seat for the sixth term besides taking over Senallang state seat.-- Report by Nazura Ngah, Fairul Asmaini Mohd Pilus, Nur Lela Zulkipli dan Seri Nor Nadiah Koris.
