LANGKAWI: Tun Dr Mahathir continued his attacks on Pas, with his latest barb alleging that that the Islamic party is using religion to cheat the people, especially those in the rural areas.
In blaming Pas for the cause behind Muslim disunity in the country, the Langkawi Parliament candidate said in the past the Muslims Malaysia were united as they are Sunni adherents and the Imam Shafie's School of Islamic Jurisprudence, which despite differing views were united.
“In the past the Muslims were united but now they are divided, after Pas had stated that those working with infidels would become infidel’s themselves, whereas those cooperating with Pas would become Muslims.
“Before this Pas said that Umno is a party of infidels, as they are working with infidels such as the MCA, but then they worked with Dap, so, they should also be infidels.
“But Pas said that it was not cooperation but Tahaluf Siyasi (political cooperation) and when an Arabic language is used, it becomes halal. In fact Pas had brought about a new religion when it alleged that if you do not join Pas, then you become an infidel.
“I hope religious teachers do not teach their pupils that if a thing is referred to in the Arabic language, it then becomes Islamic. It should be noted that not all Arabs are Muslims, as there are those who are Christians,” he said.
Dr Mahathir said this in his speech at an opposition pact ceramah in Kampung Bukit Malut, here tonight.
Also present was, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
Dr Mahathir in a cynical remark also said that those who followed Pas leaders had deviated from true religious teaching.
“After this those who want to convert to Islam should recite the two clauses of Affirmation of Faith in Islam (Dua Kalimah Syahadah) and then say, I am a Pas member, and only then you become a Muslim.
“I would like ask Pas, Muslims globally number some 1.7 billion and they are not Pas members … are they infidels ?
"In Pas’ interpretation ... people who do join PAS are infidels then 1.7 billion Muslims around the world are infidels,” he said.
