ISKANDAR PUTERI: Questions arise on the whereabouts of incumbent Iskandar Puteri and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang as he has not been showing up for campaigning in the constituency since being nominated to contest for the seat.

The 77-year old man was last seen in Johor during nomination day on April 28 and on April 22 during a dinner event with DAP members where his son Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was present to announce his candidacy for the Iskandar Puteri Parliamentary seat.

When the New Straits Times sought clarification from DAP Iskandar campaign manager Ng Siam Lam on Lim’s condition, Ng said Lim was well but was not in Iskandar Puteri but elsewhere.

However, Ng said Lim was scheduled for three days intensive talks on May 5, 7 and 8 in Iskandar Puteri and would be there to meet his supporters.

Ng did not elaborate on Lim’s wherebouts.

Lim’s contender MCA Gelang Patah chairman Datuk Jason Teoh Sew Hock however has been busy going to the grassroots right after the election campaign officially started.

A Taman Mas resident Ng Chai Sen, 35, said she was a bit dissapointed with Lim’s move to only meet the supporters for a short period of time, which he should not be doing if he wanted to retain his supporters’ vote.

“I am not saying that he should be here every night as it may affect his health but he should make his appearance sooner and not be always ‘outstation’ and away from Iskandar Puteri,” she said.

Some of DAP prominent leaders part from the contesting candidate will be showing up for election talks such as that of DAP Selangor chairman Tony Pua today, while tomorrow night DAP general secretary Lim Guan Eng with DAP nasional legal bureau secretary Gobind Singh Deo will make a presence in Mutiara Rini.
