SEREMBAN: About 100 Barisan Nasional (BN) flags went missing in the span of six hours in Kampung Baru Mambau, here, in the wee hours of the morning today.

Village head, Chan Ti Meen noticed the disappearance of the flags at 7am. The flags were installed only three days ago.

State MCA information chief Dafney Ho said the incident must have occurred between 1am and 7am as she was at the MCA Mambau State Assembly Service Centre until late.

“When I was leaving for home at 1am, the flags that were mounted around the village were still there, but in the morning I was informed that all the flags were gone.

“What is more shocking is that we found traces of burnt flags, as though some folks aren’t happy with us and the flags.

“Hence, we lodged a police report at 9.10am at the Mambau Police Station,” she told reporters at a press conference at the Mambau MCA Service Centre.

Ho said she is not certain if the act of sabotage was done by political opponents or those who were dissatisfied with BN.

“If the flags caused discontentment or problems, the appropriate parties should have met with us instead of resorting to destruction of property.

“It is because installing the flags was not easy and we spent a lot of time and burned the midnight oil to put them up.

“The electoral contest has to be fought fairly. These types of incident have never happened during the previous general elections,” she lamented.

MCA will be installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance at several locations in the area to prevent a repeat of such incident.

“It is for our safety, as well to catch the culprits in the act,” Ho said.

Meanwhile, District police chief Assistant Commissioner Thiew Hock Poh, when contacted, confirmed the report and said that police are investigating the matter.
