KUALA LUMPUR: A young lawyer, Adnan Abu Senan was among the few new candidates announced by the Federal Territory Barisan Nasional (BN) to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Two other new candidates who are also professional candidates were Seputeh MCA assistant secretary Chan Quin Er and Bukit Bintang Wanita MCA chief Ann Tan Ean Ean.

The announcement was made by Federal Territory BN secretary, Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar, at Dewan Tun Ismail, Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) here.

Adnan, 42, was elected to fill the ‘hot seat’ of Bandar Tun Razak.

It was previously speculated that MCA also wished to contest there.

Adnan said he believed his experience as a speaker, lawyer and political analyst would give an advantage to BN to win votes in the coming election.

“I just received the letter of appointment today. After this I will sit down with the team to discuss issues of education and social welfare thoroughly.

“We aim to improve the standard of education and the number of graduates from Bandar Tun Razak,” said Adnan who hails from Kampung Malaysia Tambahan.

Meanwhile, Chan, 31, who is also a former Deputy Public Prosecutor, acknowledged that she would face tough challenges from the opposition.

“It is very obvious this is a very tough fight. It is not an enviable task, given the past result (13th General Election).

“But as a first time candidate and as a young women candidate, I think when I come out to contest, I stand for not just you and me.

“I stand for the laws that we want to see in this country. I stand for the change that we want to see in this country. It is for our generation,” she said.

Tan, 46, who is also a lawyer, promised to go down to the ground frequently to get close to the 69,000 voters in the constituency.

The redelineation saw five District Poling Centres (PDMs) from the Seputeh Parliament being included to the Bukit Bintang parliamentary area.
