GEORGE TOWN: “If a man has a wife, why rely on other people’s wives?”

This was former DAP national vice-president Zulkifli Mohd Noor’s terse reaction to his former party’s decision to use PKR’s logo in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Zulkifli said the rocket logo was synonymous with DAP, and many veteran and grassroots members were opposed to using the PKR logo.

“However, they are forced to keep quiet for fear of being labelled rebellious,” he told NST today.

“DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng and (DAP parliamentary leader) Lim Kit Siang did not consider the feelings of grassroot members when they decided not to use the rocket logo.

“If the view of party founder Dr Chen Man Hin was ignored, do not even hope that the views of the grassroots will be heard by either of them (Guan Eng and Kit Siang).”

This is the first time DAP is not using its rocket logo since it contested in the 1969 General Election.

Zulkifli said it would not have happened if the late DAP chairman, Karpal Singh, was still alive.

“I challenge DAP to present the 15 items in the Setapak Declaration and explain the concept of ‘Malaysian Malaysia’ which is the party’s ideology to this day.

“In that declaration, it is clear that they reject Malays and Bumiputera and Islam as the official religion, the role of the Malay army and the Royal Malay Regiment. The declaration has never been retracted.”
