GEORGE TOWN: DAP says the opposition has yet to decide on which logo the parties would contest under in the 14th General Election (GE14).

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said they have yet to decide whether to use a common logo or that of the respective parties in the wake of uncertainty over Pakatan Harapan’s registration, which has yet to be approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

He said the PH presidential council would meet next Tuesday to decide on the logo issue as well as on the alleged directive in prohibiting the use of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad‘s images in the general election campaign.

“The final decision (on the use of logo) will be announced next week. We know PPBM and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) want to use PKR’s logo,” he told a press conference in Komtar today.

PH had applied for a judicial review on Feb 21 after the RoS had yet to approve the pact’s registration.

PH legal counsel, Gobind Singh Deo, said the decision is expected to be known tomorrow.

Speaking at the same press conference, Gobind said they would wait for the outcome of tomorrow’s decision before deciding on the next course of action.

“We will await the court’s decision. We are hoping to use a common logo. However, it the decision is not in our favour, we will file an appeal as there is still time,” he added.

In the application, PH named PH Protem Committee secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah; Lim; PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; PAN deputy secretary-general Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus; and PPBM secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh as the applicants, and RoS as the sole respondent.

All the applicants are demanding a declaration that the RoS’ move not to register PH and reply to a letter dated Feb 6, 2018, ran contrary to its statutory obligation.

They also demanded a declaration that the action by the RoS was unreasonable, mala fide, besides demanding a writ of mandamus to compel the RoS to register Pakatan Harapan under the Societies Act 1966.
