SIK: New faces will benefit from Barisan Nasional’s (BN) decision to announce its list of candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14) early.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said it would give them more time to reach out to voters.

The state BN chairman said candidates would have greater opportunity to gather input from voters and strategise.

“It has been the practice for BN to announce the candidates list two days before nomination day. I have experienced this five times contesting in the general elections,” he said after handing land titles to 232 Felcra settlers in Bukit Selambau here today.

Bashah, who was on a one-day Jelajah Muafakat Kedah tour, was commenting on reports that Najib was expected to announce the BN candidates list early as rumours were rife that Parliament would be dissolved soon.

“I support the move as it will allow candidates, in particular the new faces, to reach out to as many voters as possible.”

He urged Bukit Selambau voters not to repeat the mistake of voting for the opposition as they did in the previous two general elections.

He said they had lost a lot in development since the seat fell to PKR 10 years ago.

“During my tour today, I visited a settlement near Kampung Sungai Rusa here and I was saddened to see the poor state of basic amenities.

“I have approved RM150,000 to repair the community hall which is in a run down shape and reminded the Indian community there to return the seat to BN so that we can look after their welfare better than the opposition party.”
