KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional's (BN) initiative to set up its official website will enable the coalition to repel all the slander hurled by the opposition towards the government.

UMNO Information Chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the specially created segment within the portal will provide the people a clearer picture and debunk all the unsubstantiated allegations made by the opposition.

"There are too many fake news and slander concocted and circulated by the opposition nowadays to the point it has become a trend on social media.

The fake news tarnish the image of certain ministries and individuals who are slow in defending itself. Some (minidtries) don't even respond to these fake news at all.

Thus with this new website, BN can deny and clarify the slander in more efficient and centralised manner and will be able to do so fast," Annuar told NSTP when contacted today.

Annuar was commenting on BN's new official website launched today to debunk slander, fake news and criticisms hurled against it by its naysayers especially by the opposition.

The newly minted portal at www.barisannasional.org.my also highlights some of its current and past achievements in various sectors of the country between 2012 and 2018.

Annuar said the BN-led government is not like the opposition which is synonymous with uncorroborated and unverified news.

"The BN website will also enable the people to verify the news before sharing which encompasses news on social media, blogs, webnews, instant messaging and others," said Annuar.

Among some of the fake news that the website debunked in its first day of launch is the RM1 billion found on the luxury yacht Equanimity which was seized by Indonesian police allegedly linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Another lie spread by the opposition and corrected by BN is the Royal Malaysian Air Force land in Sungai Besi which was not sold to China.

BN's new website also shares with visitors a complete profile of BN's people’s representative from all 13 states and three federal territories elected during the 13th general elections, development plans, promises fulfilled, transformation, government assistance, milestones and national and economic achievements.

The website is available in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil.
