KUALA LUMPUR: Pas-led coalition Gagasan Sejahtera (Gagasan) will launch a nine-point manifesto for the 14th General Election (GE14) on Sunday.
Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the launch would take place during the coalition's Majlis Syarahan Perdana in Cyberjaya on March 18.
At a press conference at Pas headquarters this afternoon, he said the manifesto seeks to form a government that has integrity, is trustworthy and free from corruption.
The first four points, he said, are to boost the people's disposable income; generate new job opportunities; fortify the people to overcome the effects of inflation and rising cost of living; and to decrease the economic gap between urban and rural areas.
The other points are improving the quality of education to form excellent well-rounded individuals; the harmonisation of the legal system and the country's management (tadbir urus) in line with Syariah principles; re-strengthen the concept of federalism by returning certain rights to the states; to strengthen the voice of the people in line with Syura and democratic principles; and improve the effectiveness of social support system for the less fortunate.
"The Gagasan manifesto is based on past documents like the Gagasan Charter, Gagasan Memorandum on Political Donation and Money Politics, and Gagasan Memorandum on Fighting Corruption, (among others)," he said.
Tuan Ibrahim said the manifesto aims to resolve the daily issues that currently burdens the people.
On whether the Gagasan coalition partners had finalised seat allocations, Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said 70 per cent of seat talks have been wrapped up nationwide.
Asides from Pas, Gagasan is also comprised of Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and Pan Malaysia Islamic Front (Berjasa).
"70 per cent (of seat allocation talks) have been settled in all states. Only another 30 per cent is still in discussion," said Takiyuddin.
He said Gagasan will contest in at least 130 parliamentary seats in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
Tuan Ibrahim clarified that the coalition does not foresee any problems in resolving remaining seat allocation talks.
"The talks are conducted harmoniously and we would see which (candidates) have potential to win.
"The party machinery will look for candidates who have the support of all (Gagasan) component members," he said.
On whether the Gagasan manifesto seeks to form an Islamic state in Malaysia, Takiyuddin said that the terminology is not directly used in the manifesto.
"However, (the Gagasan Manifesto) is in line with Pas' aim to develop a harnonious and peaceful society in line with God's wish (perintah Tuhan).
"Pas' continuous struggles are in line with both its (party) constitution and the Federal Constitution," he said.
On whether the manifesto would be able to attract non-Muslims to vote for them, Tuan Ibrahim said the document laid out the coalition's aim to form a society that is suitable for all members to live together well regardless of race, among others.
Also present were Pas vice-president Idris Ahmad, party youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, and party research director Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki.
