KUALA LUMPUR: A viral TikTok video has captured the devastating aftermath of termites ravaging a mother's hard earned savings.

The heart-wrenching video uploaded by user @madam_mama06 which gained over five million views in just one day, shows piles of cash severely damaged by the tiny yet destructive pests.

The video, shared by the woman's daughter, shows a heap of ringgit notes ranging from RM1 to RM50, all visibly marred by termites.

In the video's caption, the daughter reveals that the undisclosed amount of money had been stored for no more than two months before termites destroyed them.

"They even know to 'target' the bigger value one (RM50), and leave the small one alone," she wrote, emphasising the extent of the damage.

Viewers have reacted with a mix of sympathy and alarm, flooding the comments section with concern and advice.

Many offered tips on safer ways to store money, while others have shared similar experiences, creating a communal sense of support for the affected family.

"Did you put it in the metal container from the 2 ringgit shop? Please answer because I'm worried it might happen to me too," social media user @fieyzaelzaa asked.

Meanwhile, @cardovacreative24 said: "You can exchange it at the bank. I have experience in saving money in a bamboo piggy bank, which was (destroyed) even worse than that. It was my savings for a wedding.

"A friend advised me to go to the bank and exchange it, the important thing is that it has a serial number."
