KUALA LUMPUR: A king cobra's implausible behaviour recently captured the attention of thousands of people online.

It all began when a snake catcher and handling instructor known as Farid shared a video on his Facebook 'Farid Squad King Cobra', detailing what to do if one finds a snake in their home during the festive season.

It initially seemed like an educational session, but the video quickly shifted focus to the king cobra's unexpected behaviour, which became the main attraction.

Viewers were captivated by its calm demeanour, as it peacefully coexisted next to Farid instead of displaying the aggressive behaviour typically expected of its species.

The king cobra's conduct earned praises from many netizens, with comments highlighting how it seemed better behaved than many pets, particularly cats.

Some humorously suggested that it must be 'broken', implying that its gentle nature indicated a malfunction in its expected snake-like hostility.

User Fadzli Jamaluddin commented: "The snake (king cobra) is just lying there quietly. It's very well-behaved."

Brian Chong Yu Chong said: "It behaves better than my cat. And the host, Farid, is just chilling and sharing information. If it were us, we'd already be terrified at the sight of a lizard."

Mas Intan wondered if the cobra was the real thing.

"I'm sorry that I didn't pay attention to the fireman. I was too distracted by the snake (king cobra); is it real or fake?"

Fatin Izzati Keflee joked that the cobra was probably well-trained by his owner.

"This snake (king cobra) came for the rehearsal, hence such good behaviour."

Meanwhile, Farid, who is a fireman, in the video emphasised the importance of remaining calm if one encounters a snake in their home.

"You must ensure the position of the snake and observe its movement from a safe distance before calling 999 for assistance.

"Also, keep an eye on the snake from a safe distance so that when the rescuers arrive, they can immediately capture it.

"The most important thing is not to provoke the snake, to prevent any untoward incidents."
