KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens are urging the government to take action against petrol stations that allow Singaporeans with foreign plate numbers to purchase RON95 fuel.

This follows a viral video uploaded on X, which showed a Malaysian man reprimanding a man and woman using a Singaporean-registered car, who were filling their tank with the subsidised fuel.

The man behind the smartphone camera was heard telling the couple:

"You are Singaporean, aren't you? Where are you from? What plate is that? How can you use the yellow petrol (RON95)? You are stealing Malaysia's resources, you know?"

However, the woman responded by saying: "I'm Malaysian."

The local man, evidently frustrated, asked again: "What's your number plate? Singapore's? Are you allowed to fill up with petrol from the yellow(RON95) pump?"

The couple then claimed they didn't know they couldn't use the yellow pump and apologised.

The Malaysian man, however, insisted that they stop refueling the car as they are using government-subsidised petrol.

He also asked the petrol station worker why the duo were allowed to purchase RON95 fuel despite evidently having a Singaporean plate number.

Checks in the comment sections revealed that several Malaysians are dissatisfied with the couple in the video.

Social media user, Dengar Kata said as long as there is no action taken against petrol stations, more fuel would be sold to foreign citizens.

"As long as the government doesn't take action against petrol stations, subsidised fuel would continue to be sold to non-citizens," he said.

Another user Panji Hitam Kuning said the petrol station operator needed to buck up and monitor who is purchasing subsidised fuel.

"The problem lies with the petrol station operators. They need to make sure that only Malaysians and Malaysian cars (purchase the fuel)," he said.

User Norhisyam Hashim, on the other hand, urged the video owner to reveal the details of the petrol station.

"Expose the name of the station and its location," he said.
