KUALA LUMPUR: A viral video of a man condemning a local elected representative for failing to address the issue of potholes has finally spurred the local authorities into action.

In the 30-second video, the man can be seen painting over a newly tarred section of Jalan Hulubalang in Taman Sentosa, Klang while voicing his frustrations over potholes in the area.

The video starts with the man painting the words `Duit Saya (my money) over the newly tarred section of the road before he is heard narrating why he had resorted to such action.

"This is my money...this is your money, not YB's (yang Berhormat) money. Why do we do this?

"So that they (YB) won't claim... otherwise, when we use our own money, they (YB) will claim. Understand?" the man can be heard saying while gesturing towards the freshly painted words to emphasise his point.

The video has so far garnered 264,000 views since it was posted by @NaratifRakyat two days ago on X.

The video also garnered supportive comments from netizens, many who lauded the man's intitiative.

Among those who commented included some who narrated how motorcyclists had previously fallen off their machines while riding along the potholed filled road.

An X user - @NaratifRakyat, who uploaded the video said the road used to be filled with potholes and nothing had been done to repair it despite complains to the local elected representative.

"In the end, the public fixed it with their own money!! What's the point of having a government like this?"

Another X user, @zuleeqazoey posted that the elected representative seemed to be more preoccupied with attending functions than addressing issues faced by the people.

Meanwhile, @CondorHero6 said the particular stretch was often jammed with traffic due to the bad road conditions.

Following the spread of the video, state assemblyman for Sentosa, G Gunarajah posted on his Facebook account that the particular stretch was often damaged due to heavy rain and heavy vehicles plying the route.

He said the local council had been told to repair the road but no follow-up action was taken.

He said the problem was compunded due to the fact that the present council members were set to be replaced with a new team mid this month.

However, he said a meeting with the Klang Municipal Council had been arranged to ensure the damaged roads in and around Taman Sentosa and Klang are prioritised for repair.

He also expressed appreciation to the man who took the initiative to repair the road on his own.
