KUALA LUMPUR: Dozens of barrels filled with squid and fish were scattered on the road after the iron barrier of the lorry carrying the seafood opened in an incident on Jalan Kuala Selangor-Sungai Buloh near the Elmina Industrial Area, Sungai Pelong, last night.

Sungai Buloh police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said his team received information about the incident at 7.49pm from the public who were at the scene.

"The incident occurred when the iron barrier of the lorry is believed to have opened while negotiating a bend in the road, causing several barrels of seafood to fall out.

"Checks as of now show that no police report has been made by the lorry driver," he said in a statement today.

Hafiz said police were requesting cooperation from witnesses to contact Inspector Hasanal Hasif Johari at 019-2264650 to assist investigations.

Earlier, the incident went viral on social media, with several people seen picking up the scattered seafood by the roadside.

In a viral tweet, a social media user stated that "people are fishing for squid" by the roadside.
