KUALA LUMPUR: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman hit his RM100,000 target within 48 hours of his 200km Langkah Muar "protest run" that began on Friday.

The Muar member of parliament is running from his constituency to Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur to urge the government to provide allocations to opposition MPs.

He collected RM101,006 within two days.

"RM101,006 in 48 hours! Alhamdulillah. I am indebted to everyone. The more pressure, the more friends we gain. No matter how much it hurts, I will not stop," he said in an Instagram post.

He is on a mission to run 200km over four days, ending tomorrow, to demand a parliamentary allocation of RM4 million annually or RM20 million per term, as received by government MPs.

Previously, he said, the run was also aimed at raising RM100,000 for the Muar service centre to ensure it could continue operating and assisting people.

"Government MPs are given RM4 million a year and RM20 million per term, which is a stark difference.

"While it may be impossible to reach RM20 million, it can help us keep the Muar service centre open, pay staff salaries, and provide aid to those in need.

"Instead of waiting for empty promises from the government, it is better that we take action.

"We hope to eventually raise the funds and send a clear protest message, representing the people of Muar and Malaysia, so that we can amend the law to ensure all parliamentary constituencies receive fair allocations."

He has reportedly run 120km and will complete the remaining 80km today and tomorrow.

Syed Saddiq started the run on Friday, beginning at Jambatan Sultan Ibrahim Muar to Telok Mas, a distance of 39km, and continued running at 5pm from Telok Mas to Alor Gajah, Melaka, covering 34km.

On Saturday, Syed Saddiq continued running from Alor Gajah to Rembau, Negri Sembilan, about 30km and starting at 6.30am, and continued running to Seremban, covering 23.5km at 5pm.

He began today's run from Seremban to Semenyih, Selangor, covering 39km starting at 6.30am, and will continue running to Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, Kuala Lumpur, covering 20km at 5pm.

He will continue running 20km on Monday, starting at 6.30am, and is scheduled to reach Parliament at 9am.
