SUNGAI BULOH: Police have refuted claims of turning a blind eye to mat rempit problem near the Elmina-Guthrie area.

Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said this after a post was circulated on X claiming that mat rempit were becoming more prevailent in the area following lack of enforcement.

"As of 11.25am on Monday, the post had been viewed by 163 people.

"The post showed a group of motorcyclists gathered along the road shoulder and affecting the safety of other road users," he said in a statement on Monday.

He said the incident was believed to have occured at Bandar Elmina, Sungai Buloh.

"We are always looking into the issue of motorcyclists gathering in the area suspected to be racing around the Elmina area.

"Last year we conducted 40 traffic operations in the area which led to the seizure of 22 motorcycles and 1,616 summonses issued for various offences," he said adding that within the first half of this year, 102 motorcycles were seized with 958 summonses issued through 21 operations.

Supt Mohd Hafiz said through the operations in 2024, police also arrested41 individuals for various offences including using fake license plates and drug offences.

"We appreciate the concern and attention of the community in helping us fight illegal racing .
