KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) is expected to touch on the increased cost of diesel in its campaign in the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said this issue would be among the main topics for PN, especially Pas, in its election ceramah.

He said other issues that the party expects to touch on during the campaign would be on the water supply and local community development issues by the Penang government.

"Pas and other parties in PN will go to Penang as one team and will assist our election machinery in the state.

"There are many issues on the failure of the Penang government that we (PN) can use, such as the water issue and on local community development.

"We will also touch about the recent increase in diesel price," he told the New Straits Times.

On Pas's candidate for the by-election, the Kubang Kerian member of parliament said the party has already received the candidate's name but was waiting for approval from the Syura Council.

"Pas has selected the best candidate for the by-election. He is a local and capable to bear the task.

"God willing, we will announce his name on June 15," he added.

It was reported on Tuesday that PN will name their candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election on June 15.

PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the candidate will be from Pas.

"The incumbent who passed away is a Pas state assemblyman so we will maintain that. The seat is Pas' seat.

"We will announce the candidate on June 15. After that, the candidate will be given the certification (watikah) to contest under PN," Muhyiddin said.
