KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said there is no room for complacency for Malaysia, even as the country attracts significant foreign investments.
"We should not live in a culture of contentment and complacency. We have progressed and there's been a shift that we can be proud of.
"But, there is a need to compare our strengths and achievements with Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
"These three countries compete fiercely with Malaysia. We are no longer in our comfort zone, we must make use of the time to compare with our neighbours and see what is special and the strengths of our competing neighbours.
"We must identify and emphasise changes," he said in his speech at the 2024 Industry Excellence Award (AKI) held today.
Present were Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, his deputy Liew Chin Tong and AKI 2024 chairman Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon.
Previously, Google announced that it would invest RM 9.4 billion to build its first data centre in Malaysia, with another announcement made by Microsoft Corp earlier.
