KUALA LUMPUR: The lawyer for the parents of murder victim Zayn Rayyan will be submitting a second application to the police tomorrow to meet his clients.

Fahmi Abd Moin said he hopes to meet his clients before their six day remand period ends this Wednesday.

"For now, we have yet to be granted access to meet our clients. We also haven't obtained any feedback (from the police) regarding our first application to do so.

"As such, we will be sending a follow-up application tomorrow," said Fahmi, who is also a former deputy public prosecutor.

Fahmi was appointed as Zayn Rayyan's parents' new counsel. The couple were detained by police two weeks ago to assist in the six-year-old boy's murder investigation.

His appointment came about after the couple's former counsel, Mahmud Abdul Jumaat, said he would no longer be representing them as of last Tuesday.

On Saturday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said inconsistencies in the statements provided by the couple as well as other witnesses led police to obtain a remand extension against them.

He said police will use the additional six days remand to finalise its investigation papers for further action.

Investigations so far included the seizure of the couple's handphones as well as the recording of statements of the boy's two family members and a former babysitter.

On May 31, the couple were arrested at about 11am at their family home in Puncak Alam by the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department.
