KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya continues to be tops when it comes to rankings for Malaysian institutions in the QS World University Ranking (WUR) 2025, climbing five spots to place 60th.

This marks the second consecutive year that the university has secured a five-rung ascent.

In a posting on its Facebook page, UM said it also showed significant progress in reputational indicators, maintaining 34th place in employer reputation and rising to 62nd in academic reputation, up by six places.

Domestically, UM is the top Malaysian university for employer reputation, academic reputation, employment outcomes, international research network, and sustainability.

Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) demonstrated significant improvement in its academic reputation for the fifth consecutive year, marking its strongest indicator in this year's ranking.

This represents UiTM's highest result in the QS WUR 2025 among all indicators.

UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib noted the university's efforts to enhance its academic reputation since the UiTM2025 agenda began in 2021.

"This achievement is reflected in the QS WUR 2025 for the fifth consecutive year. This year, UiTM is embarking on its new UiTM2030 strategic plan," he said.

UiTM ranked 587th this year, placing it in the top 39 per cent of universities worldwide.

A total of 28 Malaysian higher education institutions were ranked this year.
