KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) will soon conduct ground operations to demolish all 37 structures illegally built in an area in Sentul here, which have been turned into settlements for illegal migrants.

This action,DBKL said, follows a large-scale raid jointly conducted by the city council and other enforcement authorities last month.

The city council added the illegal structures included 28 homes, three sundry shops owned by migrants, two shops selling scrap metal and a surau.

"We have issued seven-day enforcement notices against illegal structures in the area, starting from May 30.

"A total of 37 enforcement notices have been issued under Section 46(1)(a) of the Streets, Drainage, and Building Act 1974.

"Enforcement demolition actions will be carried out after the expiration of the notice period," DBKL said in a statement today.

It was reported that the authorities last month raided the illegal settlement for illegal migrants complete with a functioning convenience store and other amenities in Sentul.

Led by the Immigration Department, the raiding party began securing the perimeter at 12.30am before making their way inside the compound situated near the Duke Highway.

Other authorities involved in the raid included General Operations Force, DBKL, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force and National Registration Department.

The illegal settlement consisting of 20 to 30 units of homes, complete with facilities such as toilets, convenience stores, livestock pens, water and electricity supply, was built on a government reserve land.
