KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is reviewing the alleged assault of a disabled e-hailing driver by a VVIP's escort.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said she had directed her officials to investigate the situation to determine if any assistance can be provided to the affected individual.
She said she sympathised with what had transpired with the individual who is a deaf-mute.
"The thing is he (e-hailing driver) is not asking for financial assistance, but we want to know what exactly is the problem.
"Furthermore, we were not there and we only know information from what we read in the news.
"But the inspector-general of police has given his assurances that action will be taken.
"I've already asked my officers to see what we can do because perhaps there may be some shortcomings from us, and we have to see what can be improved," the Borneo Post quoted her as saying to reporters in Kuching.
Nancy added that this would include a reevaluation of longstanding policies to ensure their relevance in contemporary contexts.
"Some policies have been there for a long time and are no longer relevant today.
"In this case, I've also requested for a feedback report so that we can look into what we can do about it," she said.
It was reported that the incident occurred on May 28 at a five star hotel in the federal capital.
The e-hailing driver lodged a police report following the incident, but later lodged a second one saying the matter had been settled.
