KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians are allowed to visit Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa effective today.
Thailand government spokesman Chai Wacharonke said the cabinet had agreed to waive visa measures for 93 countries, including Malaysia, up from the previous 57, in a move to boost tourism and bring tourist dollars into the country.
Among the measures that have been approved were visa exemptions, expansion of the visa-on-arrival list from 19 countries to 31, and introduction of a new visa category.
As for digital nomads seeking long-term stay and remote work in Thailand, visa validity could be extended from 60 days to five years, with each stay lasting up to 180 days.
Foreign university students were allowed to stay one year after graduation while insurance requirements for long-stay foreign retirees would be relaxed, reported Xinhua.
According to the Thai Tourism and Sports Ministry, the country has received more than 14.32 million tourists up to last week and aims to achieve at least 35 million foreign arrivals this year.
