KUALA LUMPUR: The police have confirmed that the viral CCTV footage showing national football player Faisal Halim being attacked with acid on May 5, is the actual video of the incident.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar said investigations have been initiated to identify individuals, who disclosed detailed information about the ongoing police investigation, as well as those who have spread the CCTV footage.

Following the disclosure of investigation details, Hussein said investigations are being conducted under Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"This video is evidence, still under investigation by the Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit.

"Anyone involved in section 203A of the penal code (disclosure of information), if convicted under subsection (1), may face a fine not exceeding RM1 million or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both.

"Under subsection (2), anyone who has any information or matter that has been disclosed in violation of subsection (1) that discloses such information or matter to any other person, could be fined not exceeding RM1 million or imprisoned for up to one year or both," he said in a statement today.

Hussein added that anyone involved in Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (using network facilities to send any comments, requests, suggestions, or false communications), if convicted, may be fined not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding one year or both and may also be fined an additional RM1,000for each day the offence continues after conviction.

"Police view this matter seriously and will take stern action against any individual who deliberately spreads the video, thereby disrupting the investigation.

"Therefore, the public is advised not to spread the video and must respect and protect the sensitivity of the victim and family," he said.

Earlier today, a CCTV recording allegedly showing Selangor FC star Faisal Halim being attacked with acid on May 5 surfaced on social media.

It can be seen at the start of the 56-second video that a man in a black shirt and hat is waiting behind a black car while observing Faisal walking towards his car.

As Faisal attempts to open his car door, the man in the black shirt quickly splashes acid on him multiple times.

The suspect then flees with another man who was waiting with a motorcycle not far from the scene of the incident.
