TOKYO: Japan is ready to work with Malaysia to provide humanitarian aide to Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza, says Prime Minister Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida voiced his country's willingness to assist Palestinians during their bilateral meeting this afternoon.

Japan can provide assistance in areas of health, waste disposal and redevelopment, he said.

Anwar said at the meeting, he reiterated Malaysia's solidarity with Palestine.

The meeting also discussed the cooperation between Malaysia in Japan in trade, investment, high technology, energy transition, the environment, capacity building, defence and security, talent and higher education.

"I hope ties with Japan will continue to be enhanced and that we can attract more investments for our country and economy."

Anwar is on a three-day work visit to Japan.

He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.

Earlier today, Anwar delivered a keynote address at the Nikkei Forum 29th Future of Asia.

Aside from his bilateral meeting with Kishida, Anwar will also be meeting leaders from some of Japan's largest companies.

He will also have a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

Tomorrow, Anwar will deliver a speech in honour of the late Professor Toshihiko Izutsu at Keio University and have engagements with the media.

He will then perform Friday prayers at the Tokyo Camii Mosque before departing for Malaysia.
