KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak's revenue is expected to reach RM16 billion this year, said Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

Sarawak-based online news portal DayakDaily reported that in the first quarter this year, the state had collected RM4.79 billion in revenue.

"If the first quarter has already reached more than RM4 billion, times by four, on the assumption that other things remain equal, it will be RM16 billion."

Abang Johari was quoted as saying during his keynote address at the Sarawak Budget Discussion at Universiti Malaya here today.

The event was organised by the Persatuan Mahasiswa Sarawak Universiti Malaya Faculty of Business and Economics.

He also said the state's revenue would expand through carbon trading and gas aggregator revenues.

It was previously reported that Sarawak had collected RM4.798 billion as of March 31.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, on May 15, said this was 38 per cent of the RM12.749 billion projected revenue for 2024.
