KUANTAN: A steady stream of visitors, including family members, friends and police officers, gathered at the family home of Constable Muhamad Shafiq Ahmad Said in Taman Seri Mahkota Jaya, Jalan Gambang here, today to pay their last respects.

The remains of Shafiq, who was killed in an attack at the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor yesterday, arrived at his parents home about 4.40pm.

The hearse carrying Shafiq's remains arrived with a convoy of police officers and Shafiq's family members who had travelled to Johor to claim his body.

His casket, draped in the Jalur Gemilang, was carried into the house by eight police pallbearers.

The community came out to mourn Shafiq.

Shafiq's father, Ahmad Said Md Piah, 65, immediately returned home from a nearby surau when he heard his son's remains had arrived.

Relatives and members of the force gathered outside the house in a sombre atmosphere.

Present was Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, who presented a contribution from the Pahang police contingent to Ahmad Said.

Earlier, the remains of Shafiq and his colleague Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar were taken to Masjid Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil at the Johor police contingent headquarters.

Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia was among those who paid their last respects to the officers and performed the 'solat jenazah'.

Ahmad Azza Fahmi's remains was taken to Bidor, Perak, for burial.

Shafiq will be buried at the Batu 8 Muslim burial ground.
