KUALA LUMPUR: No Singaporeans were among the seven individuals remanded for seven days over the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station.

This was confirmed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who said all those who were detained were Malaysians.

"All of those who were detained are Malaysian citizens," he said briefly when contacted by the New Straits Times.

Razarudin has rebuked multiple reports which said a Singaporean was among the seven remanded over the attack yesterday which had killed two policemen.

Earlier today, criminal defence lawyer Muhammad Zahier Rosli from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) who was appointed to represent all seven suspects told CNA that an elderly woman, who told him she is Singaporean, was among the seven.

He also said that the 65-year-old woman was the mother of the 21-year-old male suspect responsible for the attack.

"She told me that she was Singaporean and that she was 65 years old.

"But we could not verify this as she did not have an identity card on hand. I then informed the court that we could not represent her because YBGK is a non-profit which only represents Malaysian citizens," he said as quoted by CNA.

Earlier today, magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin issued the remand order which will be in effect from today until Friday (May 24).

The remand order against the seven suspects was issued at the Seri Alam district police headquarters.

Those remanded include five members of the suspect's family and two students from local higher education institutions.

Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

In the 2.45 am incident yesterday, a policeman was shot and another slashed by a man who broke into the Ulu Tiram police station here early this morning.

Meanwhile, Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, who was injured in the attack, was previously treated in the red zone and is now reported to be in stable condition and receiving treatment in a regular ward at Hospital Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru.

The assailant was shot dead.
