KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall will form a task force to look into tree management in the city.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said stakeholders would include non-governmental organisations and arborists.
"Forest Research Institute Malaysia will also be included in the task force as they are the experts in this area.
"For the short term, we are identifying high-risk trees that need to be cut down immediately," she said after a media briefing here today.
This came after an uprooted tree in Jalan Sultan Ismail killed a 47-year-old motorist on May 7.
Dr Zaliha said best practises in other countries would be studied to improve tree management in urban areas.
On Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's directive to plant 100 new trees to replace each tree that needed to be cut down, Dr Zaliha said they would identify suitable locations and species for the purpose.
