KUANTAN: An endangered male Malayan tiger was killed after being hit by a car at KM50 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway near Lentang today.

Pahang Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director, Rozidan Md Yasin, said the adult tiger was believed to have been struck while attempting to cross the dual-carriageway at 1.20am.

"The tiger is believed to have come from the Bukit Tinggi forest reserve in Bentong. The animal weighs around 130kg.

"Perhilitan has collected the tiger's carcass, estimated to be four years old, for further examination," he said in a statement today.

It is learned that after being hit, the tiger landed on the emergency lane while the car driver escaped unhurt.
