KUALA LUMPUR: Skin from acid attack victim Faisal Halim's thigh could be used for a split skin graft (SSG) procedure to treat the affected areas of his body.

Selangor FC (SFC) head of sports medicine Dr Muhammad Hazwan Khair said skin from the thigh is usually used for such procedures.

Hazwan, however, stressed that it was up to the surgeon in charge to decide.

"Faisal has shown encouraging developments. He will undergo the proceedure (SSG) next week if there are no issues," said Dr Hazwan.

"That (selection of skin area) will be decided after an inspection by the surgeon. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration.

"But for this procedure, it is usually taken from the thigh."

Faisal has already undergone a skin allograft, imported from Belgium, during this third procedure last Friday.

Hazwan added that the SSG is likely to be Faisal's last procedure for the time being.

"For now, there are no plans for any further procedures," said Hazwan.

"We have to keep monitoring his progress. He has done very well so far."

Faisal sustained serious fourth-degree burns on various sections of his body in a vicious acid attack on May 5.

He is currently being treated at a private hospital in Shah Alam.
