KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry issued over RM2 million in compounds for non-compliance to tobacco and dengue regulations through the enforcement of the Public Health Law last month.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said 7,195 premises were issued notices for violating the Control of Tobacco Products Regulations 2004.
"A total of 4,133 compounds were given, with a total offer value of RM1,015,950.00."
Meanwhile, 2,642 compounds amounting to RM1,321,000 were issued under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975.
"With an average of RM500 per compound, 437 cases were registered for court action, and at the same time, 64 were convicted in court with a total fine of RM140,700," Radzi said.
He added that that 154 out of the 6,818 food premises inspected were ordered to close temporarily under Section 11 of the 1983 Food Act.
"The temporary closure of food premises enforced by the Health Ministry is to ensure the cleanliness of premises and the food served."
